COMMUNICATION NETWORKS:

Communication network is any arrangement of transmission media through which a sender transmit a message to receive. A communication network model has five components.

communication network sample

1: TERMINAL:

A device use to inputs/outputs transmitted message for example telephonic.

2: TELECOMMUNICATION PROCESSOR:

It supports data transmission and reception between terminal and computer, repeater, Gateway.

3: CHANNEL MEDIA:

The medium through which messages is transmitted for example fiber optic cable.

4: COMPUTER:

Computer such as a mini, personal computer, etc.

5: CONTROL SOFTWARE:

These are programs and procedures which control the telecommunication activities.

TYPES OF COMMUNICATION NETWORKS:

Following are communication network types.
1: WAN (Wide Area Network)
2: MAN (Metropolitan Area Network)
3: LAN (Local Area Network)
Explanation of each type is given as under:

1: WAN (Wide Area Network):

WAN is communication network is which terminals at wide area are connected. Wide area network accommodate large amount of users at one time. Millions or Billions of terminals can be there in WAN. Internet is WAN with large numbers of users. When the size of WAN is large it uses complex technology. Imagine how many communication signals and computing devices must be when connecting a complex technology require for such a large distance communication. No single body can own the whole of the WAN rather it is divided into segments and each segment in owned by separate party. Government also provides ownership of WAN to some extent.

2: MAN (Metropolitan Area Network):

The telecommunication network within city or limited area is called metropolitan area network such telecommunication network facilitates the user to communicate with the user of another city such communication network need no complex transmitting technology simply the terminal at one city has a network connection with another city terminal.
For example: a user in Peshawar communicates with user in Islamabad it is a MAN.

3: LAN (Local Area Network):

LAN is confined to limited area such as building. It connects limited computers  in building. It uses quite simple arrangements of computers. Most of the LAN is owned by a single owner i-e LAN are privet network. A network solely owned by a single owner is called internet. Internet is a privet network of an organization.
